How does the Radeon HD 6450 compare to the Intel G33 Express Chipset?

That might not be exactly what I have, but anyway...

I've got a Dell Inspiron 530s with 1GB of RAM and a Pentium Dual-Core processor, not sure what kind. I went on Amazon to see if I could upgrade it at all, and I bought the following parts for it.

  • An Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 CPU

    4GB of DDR2 PC-6400 RAM

Asus ATI Radeon HD 6450 1GB VRAM SILENT GPU

I'm basically hoping that I didn't waste $40 on the GPU in the integrated graphics are better. I'm not looking to do anything super heavy with gaming, mainly just games using the Quake 3 engine and possibly Oblivion/Fallout 3. So yeah, did I screw up?

And I do actually have an R9 270x sitting in my closet. I'd use that except this computer doesn't have PCI-E connectors from the PSU, and it's only 250 watts. Also it wouldn't fit.

Oh, additionally, I had a laptop that was basically this exact setup, except it had an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570. Is that any better than what I chose?

I had a 5450 which was slower than the 6450 and it worked fine for basic computer use, including 720p video playback. 1080p was a problem, but my computer then was slower than what you have now, so you might see no issues with 1080p.

I played Half Life 2, Doom(2004), and Fallout New Vegas on it. It was playable in anywhere from 800x600 to 1024x768 depending on game and on settings, and on how low of a framerate I could live with. I imagine that with the slightly more capable 6450 you'll do better. Don't bother with the integrated graphics.
