My budget was originally 3K, but adding everything I wanted put the rig to 4K. I'm considering changing the i7 3930k and Sabertooth x79 to an i5 3570k and a ASRock Z77 Extreme6 to shave off $500 since I don't think I'll see any speed improvements between the two.
Any comments or suggestions?
This computer will primarily be used for programming and system administration, but I want it to be 3D Surround capable. I don't think there are any games or applications I use that will take advantage of hyperthreading or more than 4 cores. That's why I don't think the i7 6 core is worth getting over the i5, but I could be wrong. I chose the 24 inch monitors over 27 inch monitors because the pixel spacing on 27 inch 1080 monitors is annoying to me. Since 3D surround can't go higher than 1080P, I decided to go with 24 inch monitors.
A lot of the apps I use rely heavily on a single core, so I am also planing on overclocking it to 4.5 GB. The cooler I plan on getting is not on that list.
