How does this thunderbolt technolog work like this

ok for example this video below it copies a 4.5gb file from a NAS to the laptop thenb back out to a different drive on the nas how can it copy so fast? i assume it copies to laptop and back out at the same time but how can it pull data off a harddrive and copy it so fast i thought the hard drive speed would limity how fast this can be done regardles of the connection

the hard drives are set up in a Raid Array, meaning that it has significantly faster read and write times due to data being transferred to all of them instead of only one of them at once.
