I have a windows 8 pc set up for my livingroom pc. By standard i want the audio going to the TV via the HDMI port. When i plug in headphones to play my games and not disturb my wife, i want it to redirect the audio to the headphones. I have achieved this, however, when i unplug my headphones, the audio stays locked to the analog speaker ports. is there anyway to fix this without having to manually change it every time? I am using my GPU's hdmi out, and the headphone jack is on the front panel of my pc. Thanks for your help

To my knowledge there is no way to have it automatically change the way you mention. Your best bet may be to buy a VGA cable, a male to dual female 3.5mm audio splitter, and a standard 3.5 to 3.5 male to male stereo audio cord. Plug the splitter into the headphone jack on your PC and run the stereo cable to the TV along with the VGA cable. That would leave you with an open port for your headphones on the splitter, and you could simply mute the TV or unplug the audio cord running to it from the splitter when you only want sound coming from the headphones. VGA cables support higher resolutions than 1920x1080. So this would still give you full HD display.

VGA cables are rather cheap, you can pick a 10 footer up from Bestbuy for around $30 and the audio splitter you might even have laying around your house already. If not, they're about $10. Same with the stereo audio cord, about ten bucks.
