How effective converting Dual Band N router into Wireless AP?

Upgraded my home router to an AC Tri-band Router (Linksys EA8300) and am considering setting up my old Router as an AP Netgear (WNDR4300) for the downstairs

My question is if I proceed with setting this up, will I incur more latency since lack of beamforcing and is this overall worth doing?

Thoughts? Thx in advance.

Solution
Beam forming only decreases the latency if it somehow reduces the interference and thus the retransmissons. With a AP you should in theory have stronger signals and get less retransmissions.

Beam forming also only works with end devices that support it where a AP works with all devices.

I suspect the AP solution will be better but as with most wireless installation the house makes all the difference and is not predictable.
