How far can I overclock an amd fx 8320 on stock cooling?

Solution

That's good; you've got a board with 8+2 phase VRM. Like I said above, save a little extra and get the liquid cooler. That will let you push your 8320 the furthest it can go since you have a good motherboard.
uhm wrong.Amd's stock coolers are way better than what intel offers. When i bought the 4170 i bought an aftermarket cooler as i thought amd's standard one will suck. But in general its a descend cooler sitting on my old amd 4600+.

PS I never lost a fight vs intels lower w cpu's 😀.Idleing on 23 C gaming 43C with Air cooling 😛

OT we'll depends tbh as i got one of the better cpu's that i can push close to 5 ghz but the architecture still sucks.I aint doing anything till amd's zen gets released.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! with STOCK COOLER

i have 8320 too @4.5GHz but i have installed Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
, its a good aftermarket BUDGET CPU cooler. it costs around $30

How far could I overclock it after buying the cooler?

Not sure maybe around 4GHz to 4.7GHz ..depending on your CPU and MOBO

Here's a Guide to OC AMD FX Processors - http://www.overclock.net/t/1348623/amd-bulldozer-and-piledriver-overclocking-guide-asus-motherboard

But its for asus mobos... i think it would work on others too?

First, what motherboard are you using? If its a budget motherboard, you won't be doing much overclocking to begin with.

Second, if your going to overclock an 8320, do it right and save a little more money for a liquid cooler. You will get the most out of your overclock that way. You can get decent budget water coolers for around $70.

The mobo I'm using is a Gigabyte GA970A UD3P.
