How Fast Can I Get Intel e6300 With This Setup?

I'm in the middle of building a htpc that needs to run some software that will really push the cpu. I'm hoping to reach at least 3ghz on the Intel e6300 with the following setup:

Motherboard: Gigabyte 965G-Ds3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
Memory: Patriot Extreme Performance 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Fan: ZALMAN CNPS7700-CU 120mm
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC ATX 430W
Case: Silverstone L10m

Is this at all possible with this setup? The biggest thing I'm not to sure about is the memory. Is it overkill, or not good enough? Thanks in advanced.

I would change your Heatsink to a Zalman CNPS9700 if you want better O'C..
I'm not sure how much faster will clock, but for sure will keep the temps down.

I'm more than sure u can hit 3ghz if u decide to use the same mobo as Wiz in this guide: Wiz's Awesome Guide . I built a system using his specs and I was able to hit 3 ghz no problem.

I don't know the specs of ur board but (pure newbish speculation here...) 965P-DS3 >= 965G-DS3 since P comes much much later G so it should be more revised Feel free to contradict me if i'm wrong...

The G means that it comes with integrated graphics.

Thanks for the replies. I chose that particular fan because I heard it was quiet, and could handle overclocked cpus, did I hear wrong? As for the motherboard, I know they're are better choices, and normally I would have gone with them, but I'm on a budget for this computer. I would love to see the guide that was mentioned earlier, but the page won't load. Can anyone tell me if the memory I chose will get the job done? I'm kind of clueless in that area.

It's not overkill because you can overclock the memory only, but i really don't know if that 7700 will hold up to what you wan't. Since you are building a HTPC i don't know what You will need to see if a better heatsink fits for your case.

a Zalman 9700 is a good choice, but also is a Scythe Infinity and a Thermalright Ultra 120.
