How fast is 7200RPM Blue compared to my 5400RPM Green?

Title says it all really.

How much of a performance boost will I see if I get a 1TB WD Blue drive over my current 640GB WD Green 5400RPM. Also, how does RPM affect performance? I guess higher is faster but that can't just be it?

If you are really concerned about speed and reliability, I wouldn't be looking at WD cheaper line. Their Black line is the performance line, and are all around better drives.

recent tests dont show any much of a performance improvement of blacks over blues. all you really get is a longer warranty. green drives are a little slower, roughly 15-25% in worst case scenerios.

if you want a performance mechanical drive get a hitachi/hgst 7k.

Well my original plan was to get a Black, but they cost £20 more right now (55 versus 35) and I'm on a tight budget, so I went with the Blue.
