How get audio through HDMI to DVI on Philips 196V4 monitor for PS3?

Hi I have a Philips 196V4 computer monitor and it has DVI and VGA port and also audio jack input, it looks like this on the picture.

I connected the HDMI to DVI cable on PS3 and monitor to get the picture/video. For the sound bit, I tried connecting the PS3's composite cable's Red and White lead onto an adaptor like this one

and then connected it on the back on the monitor's audio input to get the sound but for some reason it's not working. Am I doing something wrong?

Have you checked the volume on the monitor to ensure it is set high enough for you to hear the sound (in your monitor on-screen display)? You may also need to check your audio output settings on your PS3. It may be outputting audio via HDMI vice the composite port.
