how good are 6850's corssfired

i have a decent gaming pc nothing fancy because i don't s**t money. I have 1 6850 on a 1280x1024 screen and things like civ5, skyrim , shogun 2 work fine on full but i was thinking in future when upgrade time comes how good are crossfired 6850's and should i just get a 7850 instead. (also after my gpu what to upgrade next)
