I need to build a PC. With GPU prices between 2 to 4 times what they were a year ago, and local supply shortages I can't use a discrete GPU. So I was thinking of taking my GTX 1660 TI which I use for my HTPC for the new system

In turn I would use the iGPU for the HTPC. I have a 4K 3D 55" LG edge lit TV. Content is almost entirely consumed from a local server. I don't use any streaming Services. Media I buy is ripped and stored on my local server. The network is all 10Gbit

I have a HDMI 2.0b cable running from the GPU to a Yamaha receiver for 5.1 sound.

I am considering a Z590 motherboard and an 11700K CPU with 16GB DDR4-3600 CL16-16-16 ram.

Is the iGPU capability on the CPU and the combination of hardware I have good enough to give me quality viewing?

Are there any gotcha's I should watch out for?

Solution
The motherboards don't have the IGP, the CPU does. Even an 3200g would be enough for TV content, is cheaper, and has a better IGP. The 11700k would be a waste of money. Truth be told, it's a waste of money in general. 11700k is selling for the same price as a 10850k right now. lol

I would consider an i5-11500 as something obtainable and reasonable for an HTPC that should last a while. That has Intel HD750 rather than the HD730 that comes with the 11400. Wouldn't need a Z board, just a compatible B560 or H510 or something. 3200Mhz memory would also be fine.

Cheapest motherboard with WiFi if that is something you need.

Thanks for all the advice.
Sorry, I'm in Australia. Prices are insane here, as is availability.
I'm not overly concerned about price. I've gone for the Z motherboard and 11700K because of the resale value. I don't usually keep stuff beyond their warranties. I guess it is overkill for a HTPC.
AMD here are often more expensive than Intel, at least for those retailers within driving distance of me.
The 11700K has the HD750 graphics. If I understand the advice, you're saying that will be fine for what I want to do.
The PC may be redeployed at some point, or at least some parts of it as I have 10 PCs and I tend to rotate parts around as needed when I upgrade systems. That's another reason I go for the mid-range components rather than the budget ones.

That price of $440 looks nice :) Ah, I wish it were so. You need to at least double it for Australia.

I've got a budget of $1500 for the PC I'm building. The HTPC currently has a Z390 Phantom Gaming 9 installed with a 9700K

Perhaps that combination is good enough for what I want to do and all I really need to do is take out the GPU for the new system?

To be fair even the 11400's weaker IGP should be able to handle what you are looking to do. Anything beyond an 11600k, is as GN puts it, a waste of sand. If you want overkill, go with a 10850k, for $10 less than the 11700k.

Thanks for the video link.

Ok, perhaps I have created some confusion. I already have a PC that has been relegated to HTPC. It was previously a gaming PC, but when my son bought another TV we just redeployed the gaming PC. So yes, it was overkill. However, at times it is still used to play DOTA 2, Runescape 3 and Hearthstone on the TV.

I am building another PC for a specific task, and the only thing I need is a GPU as they are extremely pricey and hard to get. I'd prefer a RTX 3070 but even if I could get one it would be close to A$2200 if not more. So I have to make do with what I have for now, which is a GTX 1660 Ti.

So all I was going to do after buying the parts for the new PC was take the GPU out of the HTPC and put it in the new PC. Since I'm buying the motherboard, RAM and CPU anyway, if the 11700K's iGPU was better than the 9700K I was going to put that into the HTPC. The Z390 and 9700K are good enough for the new PC. But since I now have a PC dependent on the iGPU, I wanted to get the most out of that as I could.

Seems the AMD 5800X and 11700K are somewhat equal (going by the linked video), but the AMD is A$130 dearer, and whilst I haven't looked at motherboard pricing, AMD boards are often more expensive than the Intel.

So - the original question; Will the 630 iGPU meet my needs, if not will the 750 iGPU?

Did some tests on Z390 with Intel's 630 graphics.
At 4K in high speed action sequences, especially dark scenes the image quality is terrible, with occasional lag.

The PC is running a 9700K CPU with 16GB of DDR4-3600 CL16-16-16 OC'd to 3733mhz. The CPU is running at 4.5GHZ on all cores. The video was played from a local 970 Evo Plus 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD. The video is HDR10 (but I'm not using HDR mode). The software is potplayer, with SMPTE ST 2084 enabled for HDR color correction

The 3D test, at 1080p there is more ghosting than on the GTX 1660 Ti GPU. But otherwise similar.

You can forget about gaming on that iGPU. Dota2 and Runescape 3 are terrible (even at 1080p). Hearthstone not so bad. Had to run Fortnite on low settings.

I guess we'll have to see if the if the 11th Gen CPU and Z590 board can handle it. The 11600K seems to be marginally better than the 9700K according to various sites, so I guess I'll go for that if the 11700K is a waste of sand.

If that doesn't work I guess I better start saving for an RTX 30 series card. Looks like prices are not going to come down for a very long time, and I hate feeding the scalpers....
