It seems like a really good deal to me. It has 1080p resolution, 12gb RAM, a backlit keyboard, and an i5-4210 processor.

I'm coming from a Lenovo B50-30 Touch (http://www.amazon.com/LENOVO-B50-Touch-Screen-Laptop/dp/B00M64Z8IC).

The only game I really would want to play on it would be the Sims 4.

I'm a college student who's about to start a computer science major next semester. How good would this be for programming?

The Dell Inspiron 5000 is pretty decent for the price, but I am not sure if you will be able to play Sims 4 at 1080p with decent performance. Since you are relying on integrated graphics you may need to lower the resolution to 1600x900 or 1366x768 to get decent performance.
I don't want a refurbished computer and doesn't that computer have less storage, a lesser processor, and much less RAM? Plus, I want to order from a place that I can get a protection plan for the laptop as well.
