So I am building myself a gaming PC and have looked a bit at buying a proper gaming monitor for it. What i really want is the ASUS rog swift however i wont be able to afford this once i have put together my pc. At the moment I have a 42" Panasonic TX-42AS500B 1080p Smart TV and what I really want to know is how suitable this would be for gaming? I know some text might be hard to read but if I sit back abit while gaming will this be a problem? Thanks in advance.

Everyone wants ROG Swift but most people don't even have a system that can properly run it.

You'll be fine with 42" 1080P. I have a friend that plays on a 37" 1080P Vizio and he's been loving it that way for years.

With 1080p and your screen is 42'', the pixels will looked dragged out. I used to have that same exact T.V and I used to game on it, the colors seemed VERY off. I downgraded to a $50 AOC monitor, and it honestly looked much better. (Everyone interprets colors differently btw).

2K 3D monitor? You will need a 1500 dollar rig at least to get decent frame rates. The higher resolution you go, the more power you need. For example, on a 4k monitor you may get 20fps, but on a 1080p monitor you can get 60-80 fps.

Thanks for the reply. Do you think using this TV for a few months is bearable though while I save for a decent 1440p monitor? Could you not sort out the colours with the picture settings at all?

Just look at its specs... You need at least a two higher end cards setup.

The T.V itself just seemed like it would "smudge" the colors together. I actually used the T.V for a while and I didnt even know the colors were off until I went to best buy and saw different monitors. This T.V is good if you're going to upgrade it soon.

Seems as if you have a good rig for it, but I dont recommend that monitor because of all the reviews, and its price :: http://www.amazon.com/PG278Q-27-Inch-Screen-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00MSOND8C
You could run it, but you will be limiting your FPS. I would just go with a 1080p monitor.

Thats a good build, if you have the money, go for the ROG Swift. I still recommend 1080p.
