How i got dobly digital and dts working on logitech Z-5500 and Z-680

I have seen so many threads of ppl asking how to get true 5.1 from there expensive logitech speakers.For awhile I was one of those ppl till today I feel i should share how i got Dolby digital and dts working through a optical connection games now sound amazing!I can not believe I have been missing this sound quality all my life.At first I thought any sound card that said Dolby digital live on the box would work so I bought the diamond extreme 7.1 usb sound device that had Dolby and optical but the only way i was able to get surround sound from all my games was to use a analog connection have my Z-680 or 5500 on 6 channel direct and on the sound device control panel on windows set to 2 channel like stereo mode just left and right speakers I still don't know how this was giving me 5.1 surround but it was if i hooked up optical i would only get 2 channel left and right no matter what I switched on the sound control interface on my pc.I had 1 more idea and if this didn't work i was done trying so i went ahead and ordered the creative sound blaster z 80$ on amazon got it put it in a PCI-E slot and fired my system up after running a optical connect from card to speakers and this is how I got it to work I opened up the sound blaster control interface on my PC I clicked on cinematic then under that there's 3 options you can tick first 1 being no encoder 2nd is Dolby digital and 3rd is Dts then select if you want Dolby digital or dts and my eyes lit up big when I looked over to see on my Z-680 control pod it showed the double d digital so what i believe is happening when a audio source gets sent to the sound blaster it encodes it to what 1 you have selected sends that to the Z-5500/680 then that decodes it and out comes your true surround sound.I really hope this helps someone. Please comment if this has helped you. after hours of looking for a solution online and seeing how many others were in the same boat i was with no real solution that I could find and finally getting this to work I feel I had to share.
