How important is "Dedicated Video RAM" for gaming?

I am planning on buying a game called "Don't Starve Together," but it requires 256 Mb of VRAM and I only have 130 Mb. I have a Windows 10 laptop if that helps. So is VRAM necessary and if so is there anyway I can increase it? Thank you :)

Edit: Thank you all for your answer and for responding so fast!

Solution
It can be very important, you'd need more for higher resolutions and increased detailing in games (a good example is GTA V, although you can pass the VRAM limit with little-to-no impact, if any).

The game "Don't Starve Together" is a relatively low-end game, don't necessarily need more VRAM for it. I would just make sure your computer can run it, wouldn't worry about the VRAM (unless it stops you from running it).

In laptops, VRAM cannot be increased. Laptops are not customizable, other than telling the manufacturer that you want a different variation of a model before you buy.

VRAM is the memory that stores data for what is going to be processed to later be displayed. Not having enough VRAM will mean that textures will not display correctly and you're GPU will be heavily overloaded.

Not necceasrily true. Judging by the amount of Vram he has, OP most likely has an onboard GPU. In that case, it just uses your RAM. In this case, you can easily increase your Vram from the bios.
