Question How important is ram to gaming?

Currently have 8 gb of ram. I also have i5 6700 and a gtx 1050 ti. Currently while loading in some maps in escape from tarkov, my game will crash. This also happens in a few other games but this is the most recent. Could this be caused by not having enough ram? While loading in it my memory usage is in the mid to high 90%. If i upgrade should I just go straight to 32 gb or will 16 be enough?

It's most likely not ram. But just in case, watch the ram usage until it crashes and see if it gets to 100%.
I don't think games on their own should take up the whole 16GB, so check for background processes as well.

I only have 8 gbs right now. I was also running discord while playing. I don’t think it ever got to 100% but it would get to the high 90s, m in discord will crash and disconnect me from the call and right after the game will crash.

Ah I see. I thought you said you had 16GB. In that case, an upgrade to 16GB may be necessary.
