I am still hearing about how bad AMD is doing and how much they are struggling. HOW? I can't find any sales data but in terms of usage AMD seems to have around 25-30% of the market share. desktop CPUs is a massive industry! (even if isn't growing 100% of the time...) How could they be doing bad with somewhere around 1/4?

And then they own Radeon. Well Radeon cards can't even stay on the shelf! They are selling not below MSRP but above! If they can barely keep up with demand then how could they be doing bad?

Then there are next gen consoles which have both amd CPU and GPU (or just APU I guess). And those are selling well too.

Since when do you need to be the only one in business just to stay in business?
Where does their money go?

"Doing bad" all depends on the perspective. From an investor standpoint, they have been struggling against the competition for some time (nvidia and intel are crushing in the high end market atm). Also, they aren't making any gains in really any market share, in fact they are losing market share in certain areas.

A lot of that "doing bad" perception, however, is just based on perceived hype (or lack thereof) regarding their future.

Current products and strategies as well as market saturation (all of which are solid (not necessarily ideal) for AMD imo) are not the only factors that go into investor perception.

The reason people say they are doing bad is because currently they are not competitive in the high end power user market their products are not as powerful as intel, and in other spaces like mobile and server market they are up against more powerful competition like nvidia and qualcomm. buisiness wise and money wise they are doing fine and as a company they aren't going anywhere anytime soon but in the high end enthusiast market they might not be competitive for a while and sites like this one you will see amd being made to look bad because the readers are that market. Like you said as a company they are actually doing pretty well because they occupy a huge mainstream market that is more important to cater to in order to make big profit. So amd isn't necessarily bad they just are not competitive in certain spaces in the market.

They in fact do,

I've also heard nasty things about AMD too, one of them being a comedic response to the acronym AMD standing for " A Massive Destruction ",

but clearly their doing well.

Yeah, everyone seems to be ignoring how much they have been making from their sony and microsoft contracts. Their last couple quarterly reports have be positive...revenue-wise. Market perception is fickle...
