How Is "Fixed Wireless" for Gaming?

So right now I live in the middle of nowhere, with no Fios, no Cable, and no cell service. The only internet options are Dial Up and satellite. Currently we are with Dish, which sucks, as i can barely play dying light/ total war games on multiplayer. Everything else is like 1000 ping constant. BUT, they are starting construction in the field across from my house on a "fixed wireless" tower. Should I get my hopes up for gaming? On their site it says "low latency" but im not sure if I should believe it. I'll mostly play csgo, gta, etc.

Thanks for any help, whether im going to have to wait until they put in a cable or whether i have finally been saved from the depths of satellite internet.

It will be lower latency than satellite. With games you have 2 issues the latency and the jitter. High latency like from satellite makes games unplayable. Wireless in general is susceptible to random variations in packet delays...ie jitter. When you have jitter issues you experience what people refer to as lag in the game. Your machine and the server do not agree on the position of your character in the game and it attempts to correct causing what appears to be warping or stalling.

It depends which wifi system they use. If they use the cheapest option and use normal WiFi you may see some issues when lots of people are using the system. Many though use special equipment for WISP providers. Motorola canopy is popular...

Many though use special equipment for WISP providers. Motorola canopy is popular and many are now moving to LTE based systems like cell companies use for 4g. Both those systems control the end radios so you do not get transmissions overlapping.

If they are using the better systems it will not be quite as good as say dsl or cable but it will be acceptable most the time. It will be a lot better than satellite
