I was wondering if anyone could share their thoughts on a gaming desktop. I am wanting to run most games on the highest setting. I may also be overclocking and am not trying to go over $950 Here are the specs.

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor

CPU COOLER: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 R5 ATX AM3+

MEMORY: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

STORAGE: Seagate FireCuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB SC

CASE: NZXT Phantom 410 (Gunmetal/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case

POWER SUPPLY: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

The OS would be running windows 10 64 bit. Feel free to give me advice on anything I should change. The total price without tax or shipping so far is $840.

Solution
The FX/AM3+ build is a dead-end build (low performance, high temps/power consumption, and no upgrade path in the future). Get either an Intel i5 Kaby Lake build, or for lesser cost at same performance, a Ryzen 5 build (much recommended):

Here's the recommended build ($890):

Better CPU (Ryzen 1400, lower TDP, overclockable, with included sufficient nice-looking/low-profile CPU Cooler). Appropriate Motherboard (supports OCing and fits nicely on preferred ATX case). Better RAM at 2 x 8GB (16GB) DDR4-2400MHz. Dedicated 250GB good-quality SSD (Samsung 850 EVO) for your system drive (Windows 10 OS) which is paired with a 1TB HDD (WD Blue). Better GPU (double fans, same brand, same GTX 1060 6GB). Same preferred case (NZXT Gun Metal...

Hugely better PSU (same brand, but SuperNOVA G3 550W - 7 year warranty and good quality components). All are themed to match your Gun Metal/Gray/Silver casing. All fits your max. $950 budget.

This build for sure ^, only change i would make is this Graphics Card if you are not brand loyal. Cheaper, dual cooler and edges out the 1060 6GB in most games > https://pcpartpicker.com/product/KQQRsY/gigabyte-radeon-rx-580-8gb-gaming-8g-video-card-gv-rx580gaming-8gd.

I agree on the ryzen BUT the 1600 is where its at price to performance.

Lowered the SSD model , PSU - both still great quality choices though to get you under that $950 budget before rebates.

Better board , faster ram which is confirmed to run at 2933mhz.

Changed the case to something decent whichbgets you in budget (change bit back if your dead set on the phantom)
