Rambus has been sued for anti-trust, fraud, and had many of their patents invalidated over the past 10 years. What exactly are they doing these days? How are they still in business?
Haha yea. I also had an old Dell computer with RDRAM in it...back in the day when I didn't know much (2000) as a noob as well.
It did work good....but damn did I ever get ripped off (or I should say my parents...lol) for the cost of the ram itself. Little did I know...a year or so later I couldn't find any RDRAM to upgrade my box LOL (BUGGERS!).
They sell lincenses for their IP designs to other companies. PS3 comes to mind as they use rambus ram. As well as the N64 back in the day.
IMO they don't do much - and seem to be a skeletal company. They seem to make most of their money off sueing other companies...
Yea, after reading their wikipedia article, thats what I gathered, they seem to just be suing people. "Hey hold up their Samsung, I invented that!!!! I'll see you in court!"
We were discussing RAM in one of my PC classes last night, so that got me curious. I had RIMM in my old desktop, at the time, seemed like it worked pretty well, but then again, I was also a complete noob to computers and thought Dell was the answer to everyone's computer needs...
