How is the power button on the case turn on the PC?

I know this is a stupid question, but I am doing part research for a build and I wanted to know how the power button on the case will turn on the computer?

The button has a wire to connect it to the motherboard.

two pins on the board the switch[momentary] is hooked up to and say there + and - when you push the button in it shorts/opens a circuit
