How is this build for 1440p gaming?

Looking to buy this set up pretty soon. Was hoping Id be able to run 1440p on high settings

1440p and 4K don't really require much more CPU power than 1080p most of the time. You even said that higher resolution gaming is done by the video card. Why recommend an i7 then? Your own statement goes against that recommendation.

To the OP, your build looks fine to me. I play at 1440p with SLI 970s which are comparable to your 980 Ti. I also have an i5-4690k which is comparable to your i5-6600k. The i5-6600k and 980 Ti will be great for 1440p gaming. It isn't necessary to go...
1440p means 2k not 4K..
Anyways good build but would be better to pair it with an I7 since ur playing on 2k cuz...
Mainly high resolution gaming is done by the video card...If I were u I would get the i7 to get more performance...Anyways good build..

To the OP, your build looks fine to me. I play at 1440p with SLI 970s which are comparable to your 980 Ti. I also have an i5-4690k which is comparable to your i5-6600k. The i5-6600k and 980 Ti will be great for 1440p gaming. It isn't necessary to go with an i7.

Keep in mind that you will need an aftermarket cooler if you buy a Skylake K series CPU though. They do not come with a stock cooler since they are meant for overclockers.

If you can do without overclocking you can save some money on an i5-6500 and an H110 motherboard. No aftermarket cooler would be necessary in this situation. You could also choose to put those savings towards an i7-6700 if you wanted.

Edit: I can tell you that my next build will not be designed around overclocking. I spent more money on the i5-4690k, z97 motherboard, and aftermarket cooler. I was able to get a stable 4.4GHz overclock on my CPU but it makes almost no difference in gaming performance.

My framrates are basically identical whether I leave my 4.4GHz overclock active or just let the i5-4690k use turbo boost to get to 3.9GHz on it's own. I am back to stock speeds now because my performance is the same with less heat output. This is the last time I pay more for the ability to overclock.

Sorry man, I just had to laugh at your post. When you said, "1440p means 2k not 4k", I was gonna bust a nut. 1440 p does not mean its 2k, when you measure it horizontally (2560), that means its 2k, not vertically. The real 4k screen size is 3820 (horizontal) x2160 (vertical)
 


That's why you have no friends
