How is this for a gaming system? 955 BE + 560 TI

It's basically a 955 BE + 560 TI setup with 8GB RAM dual channel. It's a gaming system I plan to use. I already have a case so it's not on that list.
I'm not really aiming for super high-end, but enough to play the newest games.

The total comes out to be $612.94, but I'm not sure if I'm getting the best bang for the buck.

Help would be really appreciated!

Do you know up to how much I can OC this CPU? Is it completely safe to leave the CPU OC'd with that cooler anytime?

Oh, and how do you think of the build?

On your list that ram is only 4 gigs. Not sure if you caught that.
Also since your building it for gaming I wouldnt use the 1TB for your main drive. It would be good for a storage drive, I would get something less like a 500GB hard drive. Once you start to fill up the 1TB it will slow down in performance.

In my system i have a 128GB SSD, 500GB 7200 rpm, 400GB 7200rpm and a 3TB 7200 rpm. The SSD is for my OS and the games i play the most. The 500 is the games i dont play that often and my programs. The 400GB is my storage for pics,video, downloads,Docs etc... and the 3TB I use for my backup

To get highest OC that all depends on your motherboard and your CPU. Not all 955 CPUs will OC the same. But you can OC it to bout 3.9GHZ w/ a good cooler.

Oh, I meant 4GB. I didn't think I would need 8GB for gaming.

As for the OC, do you know any good motherboard for overclocking 955 to its full potential with CM hyper 212 Evo?

generally 3.5 ghz is achievable without voltage increase on the 955, which is plenty enough to run any game smoothly. you could save some money on the ram and get 1333 mhz ram. to get it to run at 1600mhz you would have to overclock it as the memory controller only natively supports 1333. I wouldnt advise OC memory as it needs a lot of tweaking and you can burn up the memory controller on the cpu. I would also suggest against the Gigabyte motherboard, they are pretty crap, cheap, but crap, they also use a clunky old BIOS. Get something from Asus or Asrock. You dont need something with 2 x pcie slots since your using a nvidia graphics card the 970 chipset doesnt support SLI properly.

I dont know if the Cooler makes that much since though. 955 is not a great CPU all told. When you add the cooler you hit about $160, for $200 you could get a Core i5 that at stock shames overclocked 955s.

The only reason to buy a 955 is because you are that cash strapped. And if you are then adding the cooler shouldn't be a priority, and if you are not then you should be getting a Core i5 2500k. If you live near a Micro Center you could even get one for $149.99.

If you want super high end, phenom is not the way to go.

Bulldozer cpu from AMD is releasing this month which is most likely going to be a beast of a cpu. The octacore already broke the guiness world record for fastest cpu overclock of 8.49ghz on liquid helium xD

If you can't wait for the quad core BD to release later on this year or you don't want to buy the larger hexa and octa cores then i5 2500k would be the best route to go.

The i5 2500k has been proven to be much faster than any of the phenoms and thurbans so if you want performance that is where its at. With a nice oc of say 4.5ghz you could run two 590's no problem without a single bottleneck.

I'm not going for a super high-end as mention in the OP, and I don't also think I would be buying Bulldozer.
As for the 2500k, I failed to make a build around the $700 budget and that's why I decided to go with 955. If it's possible though, I would love to to see it.

If you want a killer board go w/ the ASUS Sabertooth 990FX. I built my cousin a PC and that is a very nice board to work with plus it is AM3+.

AS for my system I have the ASUS Sabertooth P67 board w/ the I7 2600K stock speed is 3.4GHZ and I have it OC'ed to 4.65GHZ and that is w/ out breaking a sweat. I need to get a better cooler to go higher. Wanting to go liquid cooled cause I haven't even adjusted Voltage yet.

I have the 8Gb ram corsair Vengeance, I plan on getting more cause ram is dropping on price cause there is to much supply and no demand.

With a promo code, I'm buying 955 for about $105. With a good cooler, that comes about $140.
The problem with 2500k build is not just the price of the CPU, but the price increase for buying a compatible, decent motherboard.

I have $500 in my budget for a graphics card, RAM, motherboard, and PSU if I'm going for 2500k.
So If I can get a good graphics card, RAM, motherboard and PSU for around $500, I would definitely go for 2500k. It's just that I couldn't come up with it.

I have 2-day Free Shipping on Newegg and Amazon, and they don't collect sales tax from where I live (MD) so I hope that helps you while you trying to help me find these parts. =P

500GB would fill up faster but 1tb would have a lot of stuff on it and later it would make the search slower over time.

If you really want a 1TB then do a RAID setup w/ 500GB drives(they all would have to be the same). In a RAID you would cut your loading time by half.
But for me 1TB would be for storage if your wanting to get best performance for price wise.

I managed to get them a bit cheaper on Newegg. I'm heading Micro Center tomorrow to get 2500k for $149.99.

Would I need a cooler to OC this beast?

Yes you would for sure want a good aftermarket cooler to OC it. I dont know if you know about the UEFI BIOS. Which comes on some of the new boards. It is awsome and real easy to use. You can either use your arrow keys or your mouse.

Ya that case should be fine. Looks like it has enough ventilation. Plus it has esata on front bay which is good. The ASUS sabertooth P67 has that on board so u could plug it in or u could see what other boards have it also.

Do you use STEAM if so I could add you as a friend in case you have any questions later.

You can overclock the 955BE upto 3.7Ghz easily with the stock cooler by just upping the multiplier value in BIOS. However, I recommend you to get an aftermarket cooler. Check out the new Hyper 212 Evo.

and Oh! I've read somewhere that bulldozer hex-cores will cost about $150, so you can just wait a few days more to check how does bulldozer perform.
