How is Witcher 3 GTX 970?

How is the GTX 970 in Witcher 3 1080p? Most of the reviews and benchmarks I can find, were before a lot of the drivers were optimized. Have the drivers been better optimized since release? What are you GTX 970 owners running on Witcher 3? Would you bump up to a 980 or even a 980ti if you had the funds and opportunity to purchase a new video card?

I am asking because I want to play Witcher 3, however I only play at 1080p, since that is what my current monitor is. My birthday was yesterday, and I got a fair amount of money. My birthday party is in 2 weeks for the other side of the family, and my dad will be sending me money. I figure I should be able to get me a GTX 980ti by mid October, if not a little after Christmas.

So, should I just save and go all out and grab me the 980ti, or are the drivers for the 970 better optimized for Witcher 3, since it has been quite some time since the release of the game? I am an incoming college Freshman, and well, money can be and probably will be scarce at times. However, a lot of the free time, will most likely be spent on my computer if I am stuck in my dorm room.

(If I were to get a 980ti, I would then save up for next year-ish for an Acer XB270HU monitor, or maybe Asus' IPS version of the swift if it is out by then.)

i might come in late but i own a gtx 970 (see setup in my tag) and i play witcher at ultra (except for 2 settings, that are set to high, without hairworks) and it is almost always at 60fps with drops to 57~58, except in novigrad where it drops a bit more, but i havent played in a while and im getting back on it in preparation to the expansion so i need to try the new patch and see what i can do with it and the fps levels. i can report back if you like
A 970 should run The Witcher 3 @1080p with an average of 40fps at max settings (without hairworks).
But for any other game the 970 is kind of the best bang for buck and the sweetspot for 1080p gaming.

If you want to max out anything and keep it like that for atleast another year then just shoot for the 980ti and you're prepared for anything released in the next year.

Or you want to safe some money, get a 970 and are fine for now and maybe add a second 970 in the future when you need a little extra.

If you're willing to spend the money you got just go for the 980ti and you wont have to worry about anything. (My opinion) :)

Okay, yeah, guess I shall save up ^,^

Thanks for the numbers. I mean, I play WoW at 30 FPS medium settings right now, So I have no idea what a game on Ultra 60FPS would look like. However, I want to learn sometime, you know? So I guess the 980 ti will be my choice then. Thanks for the data!
