Hi, I'm not gonna try this I'm just interested how long can the Pentium 4 last with no fans no Heat Sinks no nothing. Plus can't try this because I don't have one and I don't want to live in a flaming house so yeah. I know that the Pentium 4 generates tones of heat and I herd someone saying it'll last for 4 seconds. Is that true?

Solution
Doubtful it would burn up. Pentium 4's had thermal throttling protection which reduces the speed of the cpu when it reaches a given temperature threshold. Running it for long periods of time like that make eventually cause harm and reduce its lifespan but it won't burn up or melt or anything. It's also not the hottest chip around so not sure it generates 'tons of heat'. It's a long way from being an 8 core cpu or something like an fx 9590. Whoever said it will last 4 seconds, it may throttle or shutdown but I'm not sure they understand that it has thermal protections.

About 3 sec before it goes into thermal shutdown. If the motherboard doesn't have that function it'll last about 20 sec before something dies.
