[SOLVED] How long does a good PSU last?

Hello,

I buit a PC for my father to browse the web, mostly for reading news and listening to youtube. Its a Q9550 with a Gigabyte motherboard and 2x2Gb DDR2 1066 C5 RAM, 500Gb HDD and an HD5450.

I used a PSU from 2005 when it was high-end, Enermax Noisetaker II EG495P 485W, 432W 12V 2 Rails. I like the fact that you can control PSU fan speed with a knob. I OCed the Q9550 to 3.4Ghz without changing voltages. I ran it at those settings for more than 5 years, its stable. Everything is working fine.

Is it safe to use a 15 y.o. PSU considering its of a high quality?

Get a new one.

Really depends on many many factors including luck.

I wouldn't want to use a PSU that old, especially not an enermax
