How long does a larger amount of money take to send over paypal?

Recently someone wanted to send me $250 USD over paypal, which he did. However, this was 9 hours ago. They have taken the money from his account, and I do not yet have it. So, how long does a larger sum ($250) take to send over paypal? (UK sending to US)

Depends on the bank if he sent it by paying from a checking/savings account. Sometimes, 24 hours.

Should be nearly instant. I think the issue is the UK to US. I'm not sure what that will add.
