how long is a long time formatting my wd passport ultra.... i keep hearing going to take some time but it's been 14 hrs....

Depends on how big your drive is and the way you format is. The usual way people format drives is the "quick format" tool in Windows, if you used this, it should take no more than a minute.. If you chose to manually fully format your drive, it could take several hours, maybe more, depending on the size and speed of the drive you're formatting.

Yea no need to do a Full Format unless you are giving the drive to someone and don't want anyone to see any data. If this is just for you stop the full format and just start over and do a quick format.

Well, I would say that this is taking too long.
After the formatting process finishes, it may be a good idea to test the drive. You can use WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool(both short and extended tests): http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=R0Eiyh

He doesn't say how big it is and if he is using it on a USB 2.0 or not. If it is a big drive using 2.0 it can take a while. I remember back in the day of IDE if you did a full format on a 200Gb hard drive it would take like 4-5 hours on a XP install lol
