How long will my rig last?

Hi guys,

Here is my build:

i5 4690k
MSI GTX 970 4GB
MSI PC MATE
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 8GB RAM
XFX 650W 80+ Bronze
Samsung 850 Evo SSD 500GB x 2

This rig is 2 and a half years old. I have had no problems running games at very high to ultra settings with decent framerates @ 1080p.

How long before I will struggle to play pc games at very high settings? Is there any real need to upgrade now? Especially with how the market is at the moment? When will be the best time to build a new rig, if any? And what parts could I salvage from the current rig when doing so?

I'm interested to hear your thoughts!

Kind regards,

Noel

It will last until July 3, 2018 3:15 pm exactly, at which point an improbably flying bowl of cereal with just a bit too much milk will dispatch it to the great silicon beyond.

Seriously no one knows these sorts of answers. If it meets your needs great. When it doesn't hopefully you'll have enough saved up to replace it or you'll have to live with reduced details until you do.
Their no answer to your question.
It will last till you no longer get the performance you desire.
If your not having problems running games now then their no reason to upgrade anything.
A bunch of people think black Friday is the magic time to upgrade but that is not really true their better deals all year long if you just look for them.

I have had my 4th gen pc for over 4 years now, and still running strong until a hardware failure happens, nothing you can quantify as a "expiry date " this is not bread. I have pc's in my shed that are 12 years old and still run like a champ. I would suggest saving for an I7-4790K enjoy the improvement on power and speed from an I7 over your I5 and upgrade your memory to 16GB run it strong for many years to go.

This with a video card upgrade in the future.
You can try to get a good deal on a 4790K if you can find a used one if not no rush your still OK just keep a eye out for a good price until you find one.
My son has my old i5 2500K that is overclocked to 4.8 and it still runs everything just fine. (it came out in 2011)

When I do upgrade I'm not going to bother with an i7-4790k. It's overpriced for the performace you get. Intel's new coffee lake CPU's have arrived. I'll probably get something along the lines of the i5-8600k. It beats the i7-4690k in every way and its a bit cheaper! :)
