My motherboard, the MSI H110M PRO-VH PLUS , has only one 4 pin for case fans and I am planning to to use a splitter to connect more fans to it.

I have heard that the total fans amps cannot add up to more than what the motherboard can hold or it will get damaged. However, I cannot find the detail of the amps on my motherboard anywhere.

Any help would be much appreciated.

1 amp is typical. But contracting MSI tech support should clarify that. Motherboard mfg have been upping the current lately for fan headers because of AIO pumps using a lot of juice.
