[SOLVED] How many case fan pins

Hey, i was wondering how many pins does the case fan connector or the place where i connect case fan have? I wanna buy a y splitter since it has only 1 connector for case fan but dont know if i need to buy 3 pin or 4 splitter

There are fans with 3 (voltage adjusted) and 4 pin (PWM) connectors. Same with headers on the MB. You ca use 4pin splitter for either 3 or 4 pin fans and MB headers.
Depending on how many pins your fans have, you may need to set the header in BIOS to Voltage or PWM speed adjustment.
Just one thing, avoid using a 3pin and a 4pin fan with splitter to one MB header be it 3 or 4 pin.

Both of my fans are 3 pins, but since i havent recieved my mobo yet, i dont know if mobo has 3 or 4 pins. Mobo is msi h61ma-e35

Than use a 3pin spliter and set BIOS to Voltage adjustment for CHA_Fan header(s). 3pin fans will work fine in 4 pin headers either directly or with splitter.

Ok so i can order a splitter with 4 pin headers and it will work fine. Is the same with that end which goes to mobo? If mobo has 4 pins and splitter 3 pins it works fine? What if mobo has 3 pins and splitter has 4?

Both would work, 4 pin headers have a plastic tab that is offset to one side sou you can't place 3pin connector wrong way. Same goes for 3 pin fan connector into 4pin splitter.
