How would a A8 3850 in gaming compared to a modern Celeron or Pentium

I was looking at benchmarks and the celeron has double single core compared to the a8 but has half the core count. So in a cinabench the a8 comes out on top what about games tho do they get to utilize the core count plus background software or will the faster but less cores be better.

Solution
For now.. as in, speaking at the moment. Most games perform better with higher single core performance. Most games do not scale very well over more cores (see for example Ryzen v Core i7 7700 benchmarks in the reviews of the Ryzen)

This will not ALWAYS be the case.. with future games and API's able to better take advantage of more cores.

At the moment a 4 core processor or even a faster dual core in some cases will give better FPS. A lot of games dont even use more than 2 cores!

Not much. And you already have a quad core.. but like i pointed out. Most games still favour higher CLOCKSPEED and single core performance over core count.
If you changed, you would need to change mobo as well.. not worth it for a few FPS.

The cheap Ryzens would be a better upgrade. There is nothing to compete with them in value for money for FPS..and they will scale accordingly when newer games come along that scale with cores/threads..

Yea basically I have a lga1151 mb laying around I was thinking of buying a celeron for it and useing that for the gaming and use the amd for a secondary computer for like a nas or something but it does use more power then the Intel and it has blue accents so it would go with the theam of the gpu but yea. Basically Intel will get a few frames more then the amd and as time goes on more games will be supporting multi core.
