Hello,

I recently installed a new graphics card and i had to get an adapter so that i can have dual monitors. My current setup for the second monitor is a DVI-i cable connected to the graphics card with a display port converter, and connected to the monitor with a vga converter because the monitor only has DVI-D and vga ports and I am using the DVI -D port for my main monitor. When i try to turn the monitor on it instantly goes into power saving mode. Is this due to the weird converter setup?

Thanks

I'm guessing you have a passive DP to VGA converter, which does not convert a digital signal into analog. Most active have external power, and while some can draw enough power from the DP bus, it wouldn't work from the DVI source. The DVI-I to DP converter most likely isn't sending along the analog signal, just the digital. And even if it did, it may confuse some active converters too.

If your primary monitor has a DP input, you could use your DVI-I to DP to connect with it, and the DVI-D to connect to the secondary monitor. Otherwise, your best option is to buy a cheap DVI-I to VGA adapter for $5 or so.
