How many displays can you connect to a USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Type-C) port?

So, assuming that the port in question does support the DisplayPort alt mode, how many displays can I run off it? And at what resolutions?

I remember reading that you can run a single 4K display over a 3.1 gen 1 port, is this correct?

If that is correct, would it be reasonable to assume that you can run 2 1080p displays over the same port? (assuming that the displays are extended).

I know that's a bunch of questions, but I haven't been able to find the answer through googling. (Not to mention the differences in USB standards etc. has got me quite confused :p)

Thanks in advance!

It is just a DisplayPort connection. If the USB port supports DisplayPort 1.2, then you can get a single 4K 60 Hz monitor, two 1440p 60 Hz monitors or 1080p 144 Hz monitors, or four 1080p 60 Hz monitors. If it supports DP 1.3, then it supports whatever DP 1.3 supports.
