hi, im getting the corsair air 240 case (which has three fans and just wondering how many connectors does the MSI H81M-E34 Micro ATX LGA1150 mobo have?

Solution

You can buy a splitter to run multiple fans off one header. You can also buy molex adapters to...
Have you checked the MoBo Manual ?

newegg says:

Other Connectors
1 x 24-pin ATX main power connector
1 x 4-pin ATX 12V power connector
1 x 4-pin CPU fan connector
1 x 4-pin system fan connector
1 x 3-pin system fan connector

1 x Front panel audio connector
2 x System panel connectors
1 x Chassis Intrusion connector
1 x TPM module connector
1 x Serial port connector
1 x Clear CMOS jumper
2 x USB power jumpers

So....does this mean only 2/3 of the fans would work? Sorry for my ignorance. First time rig.

You can buy a splitter to run multiple fans off one header. You can also buy molex adapters to run the fans directly from the power supply.

Solution

There are various options:

1. A fan splitter cable.... must be selected and matched for PWM vs DCV fans / headers

2. A fan hub .... less cable clutter, superior to above

3. PSU feed, useless .... can not control fan speed.

The Modmytoys hub here would be perfect and you could control the speed of all the fans off a single header

The fans that come with that case are only 3-pin. I would just get a splitter to run 2 of the fans of the 3-pin header and run the 3rd fan off the 4-pin header.

Having a 4 pin header doesn't tell us anything. I'd bet that the CPU header is PWM but the other two are up in the air. I have (8) 4 pin headers on my M6F, (2) are PWM, the other (6) are DCV.

-If you want to run all the case fans at the same % of full speed in response to temps, then the ModMyToys hub is the obvious choice.

-If you want to run 2 of the case fans at the same % of full speed in response to temps, and the other on a different fan curve, then use the ModMyToys hub on the 2 fans and connect the 3rd tot he last header.

Hubs leave you with a less cluttered appearance cable wise than cable splitters because you can put the hub on back of MoBo tray and hide the cables a lot easier.
