Hey, I am mom of two little ones & really want an HD video camcorder w/optical zoom & an internal hard drive (among other features like an external mic jack.) My main question: how on earth do I figure out how many hours of HD video I can get per gigabyte? For Ex., an 8GB card will get me APPROX how many minutes of cute kid videos? Aaarrrgggghhhh!!!!! Thanks!

8.5GB is good for about 2 hours of 'DVD' quality 720p, and many camcorders are 2.8GB per hour. So (8GB / 2.8GB/HR) = approximately 2.86 hours. This is all dependent upon the resolution and compression used by the camcorder. High definition will yield approximately 1/4th the time per GB; 11~12GB/HR.

However, uncompressed the numbers are staggering: HD 1080 40GB/HR vs 13.5GB/HR DV.

Thank you. Also, does it matter that I don't know what "720 p" is? But this does help. 'preciate it!
