How many parition can be made in windows 7?

I have some 56 gb memory which shows unallocated in windows 7. I cant use that space . How do i use that space.

Is this unallocated hard drive space? Did you format and partition the drive previously?

I doubt that it's RAM! In answer to the original question you can have as many partitions as you might reasonably want (but if you want more than 4 on one hard disk then you'll have to make one of them an extended partition within which you create logical drives).

What do you mean "shows unallocated in Windows 7. I can't use that space"? Shows where? Are you saying that in Disk Management it shows as unallocated space but it won't allow you to create a partition using it? How many partitions do you already have?

You should be able to go into "Disk Management", then click a partition next to the unallocated space and "Extend" it.

If you a RAID setup with 60GB drives then I'd think one wasn't being used.

I could have used more information.

If my solution to "Extend" the space doesn't work, just ignore this issue as it's not a big deal.

It's also possible there's some software allocating that space such as a Linux partition but that's beyond me.

As far as I know, Win 7 Maxes out on 4 Partitions. Going beyond that will display error message that the maximum partition is reached. You might consider formatting a low used drive and re allocating it with the additional 56 GB.

No. It's 4 primary partitions. Nothing to stop you having 3 primary partitions, 1 extended one, and 26 volumes within that extended one (except you're going to run out of drive letters).

I am gonna go with phontonboy on this one. It looks like you just have some space left at the end of the drive.

I have the same issue... but close to 800Gb of wasted space. I right click on the partition and only "Properties" and "help" are selectable.

This is how I have it setup..

(All in NTFS)

1st Partition = 100Mb (Created at Win installation)
2nd Partition = 120Gb (Windows) - Primary
3rd Partition = 950Gb (Drive T) - Primary
4th Partition = 950Gb (Drive Z) - Extended

Then in disk management my last partition (5th) shows over 760Gb Unallocated space which is untouchable.
