I was wondering if i needed to go 600w 700w or larger for my power supply on my computer that i'm going to buy and i AM going to --> overclock <-- my CPU and GPU.

i'm putting in the following
i7-6700k clocking around 4.5-4.6 area
R9 290x because i own it, just gonna slide thoes sliders to the right (not the unsafe kind just what it allows me to.)
i have 2 ssd's smaller than 500 gigs and 1 hard drive 1TB
16gigs of ddr4
kraken x61

I'm worried about wattage because of my 290x is a power hungry card as well as overclocking it all, i used psu calculator but I've heard that it can fudge the numbers so i'm a little uncertain how large i should get it.

Solution
650w or more would be plenty even with an oc of everything. 600w would probably do it but 650w would give you the extra bit of headroom to help you sleep good at night :)

600~ for one card ~750-850w for 2x, 1kw+ for 3+

Go for higher quality reviewed PSU's. PSU is your single point of failure that can damage your whole rig, so don't cheap out research high quality.

Power calculators are almost always overstated as tested and proven in reviews.

500w is what i was going for as a ball park figure as well. but 600w (83% of the psu's ability) does not leave enough headroom for power spikes and such. 650w is just about the sweet spot for keeping the total usage low enough to be able to handle spikes and such and not be taxed overly.

I agree, 650W is typically the sweet spot for a single GPU.
