This system will be used for cad and some 3d cad with tool pathing and nesting for cabinet production.

Is there any reason to get more then 16gb ram? (2 x 8gb sticks)

What speed should I go with 1600 or is it worth spending more for faster?

Any suggestions of brand and model would be helpful. Most of the ram i was looking at didn't say it was compatible with 4th gen intel and only a few did. I started second guessing what to buy.

Im not concerned with looks or overclocking benchmarks unless it helps with everyday performance.

Solution
16gb shold be sufficient.
definitely 2x8gb... it prevents memory controller issues that sometimes arise if you use all 4 slots.

for you memory intensive applications, you would see a real world difference in memory speed (albeit not huge)

dont worry about amd or intel certified.

just make sure you get 1.5volt memory in a 2x8gb setup

it's not much $ to go up to 2133 or 2400... which for you i think is worth it.

hope that helps
