how much can i overclock?

if it helps, i'm using this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131329 unless someone gives me a reference to a good one that will work better and will accept an 8800GTS (or 2) that costs around $100

cool. all i really wanted to hear was 3ghz, but 3.4 or so would be nice.

yes the E7200 are really cool. I pushed mine to 3.4 ghz without problem and it stays at operating range of around 45- 50 during normal game play and 55 under stress test. It idles at around 32 degrees.

if i have it overclocked to 3.5ghz will it run as well as an e8400 or does the smaller cache size make it so it won't run as well as a 3ghz e8400?

Alot of people will tell you the cache will hurt you. I,ve buit everything from a 3.1 e1200- to a 4.05 e8400. 512KB vs 6MB There is no difference noticeable to they eye. Benches will show difference, but again your eye will never see the difference.

so you already have the RAM? >.> am i right in saying the e7200 has a 9.5x multi? if so then you only need 420fsb (so 800Mhz RAM is gudtogo 😀)assuming your mobo doesnt crash! i think heat and volts would be the limiting factor in this overclock.

the problem i predict is insufficient voltage on other parts of the mobo as it reach 400FSB

For me, I got it stable at 3.4ghz using only 1.25v of voltage. That means with even less voltage you should be able to get it stable at 3. It would be easy as pie. I would suggest you clock it to 3.4 ghz (it's totally worth it).
