Hi
So my computer should be arriving in a day or so and I'm planning on overclocking. The CPU cooler isnt the best, i have it because i pushed my budget way over and this was the only one i could get. Until i get a better CPU cooler, how many GHz should i overclock the CPU to? I'm guessing 4-4.2Ghz but i know nothing :^]. Also Vcore?

GPU:Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Xtreme 4GB
MoBo:Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 3 Socket LGA1151 ATX
CPU:Intel Core i5 6600K Skylake 3.5GHz Quad-Core
CPU cooler:Cooler Master Hyper 212X Universal
Ram:Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 2400MHz
PSU:Corsair CX850M 850W 80+ Bronze Modular Power Supply (Normal)
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB
Case:Aerocool PGS Aero 1000 Mid

Thanks in advance

Very nice build.

You are better than you think.
How high you can oc a I5-6600K is determined by how lucky you are in the binning lottery.
As of 5/2016
What percent can get an overclock at a somewhat sane 1.40v Vcore.

I5-6600K
5.0 2%
4.9 11%
4.8 36%
4.7 64%
4.6 88%

14nm skylake runs cool. You do not need exotic cooling, your hyper212 should do fine.
You will run out of vcore before you run out of thermal limits.

Stress test with OCCT; it uses a more normal set of instructions than prime95 or IBT.
It will shut down the test at 85c.
Monitor the vcore with cpu-z.

At the end, implement speedstep and adaptive voltage.
That will reduce the multiplier and vcore when the cpu is not under load.

With the GTX1060 , you might find...

I wouldnt adjust Vcore yet. But yea, 4.2 shouldnt be too difficult. Just depends on how well the stock heatsink works. Obviously, you will run a burn in test to ensure stability and make sure it doesnt overheat, so that will tell you how far you can push it.

With the GTX1060 , you might find it to be a better graphics card, or you may find GTX970 available at a discount.
Either is very good for gaming at 1080P.
