How much faster is PCIe compared to the SATA bus?

M2 drive use the PCIe bus, while hard drives and SSD's use the SATA.

Intel's Z370 chipsets give M2 drives their own dedicated PCIe lane.

Theoretical maximums:
SATA 3: 600 MB/s
PCIe 3.0 x4 (typical for NVMe M.2 SSD): 4 GB/s

Actual speeds will depend on the particular drive and what sort of read/write operations you're doing. Also, benchmark speeds don't necessarily translate well to noticeable, real-world differences in speed.

No, it will not make a difference for gaming, other than maybe load times.
