Question How much is a used TT SMART 600w worth?

My friend is upgrading his hardware including psu.

With this he is getting rid of his Thermaltake SMART 600w 80+.

I need a PSU for an older system i plan on throwing a card from the Nvidia 8800 series.
Although this PSU is not very good by modern standards, it should be fine for this old system.

Looking on eBay i see used ones for like $60 which is obviously inflated.

How much is one actually worth? Im just looking for some opinions.

A used TT Smart? Regardless of wattage, the trash bag it's thrown into would be of higher value.

For those older systems, the Seasonic S/M12-II 520w/620w or the Antec HCG/M are good, reliable and relatively cheap. As are the newer design Corsair CX/CXM which go for around $45 brand new for the 550w.

Depending on exactly which 8800 you'll be looking at @ 450w for the GT upto 600w for the Ultra as minimum recommended psu size.

He should give it to you for free so you can dispose of it for him and buy a decent unit.

I agreed onn$20 which isn't bad for a working 600w.

Sure its a pretty crappy unit, but better than a used psu from 2006 that would have been good for the time.

Its not a great deal, but it will be much better than the tt tr2 and junk like that i see for sale cheap.

$15 for a name brand 600w with 80+ certification is not bad.

Funny, but almost all the 'Name Brands' listed above has/had units with 80+ certification. Just wanted to let you know, it's an older 'Tier 5' listing, so doesn't include anything recent, but when you do flip your buddy that $15, just make sure he includes a Giant bag of Stay-Puff marshmallows...

I'm not sure what that is supposed to mean.

All of the reviews are all very negative, but its not truly horrible and wouldn't be that bad for late 2xxx standards. I wouldn't trust it with any modern hardware, but i just need it to run a q6600 and 8800gt probably.

Negotiated to $15. Even though the tt smart 600ws are not good quality, $15 for a name brand 600w with 80+ certification is not bad.

"Name brand" means nothing when the brand produces a full line of product ranging from garbage (which is the Smart) to top of the line (iRGB).

Have him give you the PSU for free and if it damages your components, have him buy you new parts.
