hi i'm new here and i have a question: i have 8gb of ram in my motherboard and have a 2gb gpu. But i want to buy a new one but i don't know how much vram i need on my new gpu, do i need 3,4 or 8 gb of vram on my gpu? that was my question.

Solution

The motherboard RAM and the GPU's dedicated RAM aren't relevant to each other.

How much VRAM depends on what GPU you're getting otherwise. The more powerful the GPU, the more RAM you want and less powerful GPUs frequently have more RAM than they can possibly use, making it nothing more than a selling point.

so it doesn't matter if you have a 8gb gpu and 8gb in you're mobo? or?

Not directly. Now, if your system had only say 2 GB of RAM, it's probably a system that's too weak overall to need a GPU that can use 8 GB, but there's no direct effect on each other.

aha ok, current i have this specs: cpu: AMD ryzen 5 1600 with stockcooler, motherboard: Asus Prime b350m-a, ram: corsair vengeance lpx 2x 4gb 3000mhz. so i can use with this system a 8gb gpu?

Yeah, one thing doesn't matter to the other. What's more important is what *is* the GPU, so it's hard to answer that question. It's a bit like asking if you should buy a "16 gallon gas tank car."

aha so i can just buy a gtx 1080 with 8gb

Yes, though note that if you're playing at 1080p, it's probably overkill.

aha ok well thx for the solution :)
