How much ram u need in laptop.

I want to game online games like BDO or smite but also have couple of tabs open in chrome while doing it.
Atm I have 4gb in my laptop and 1 spare slot. Will adding 1 more 4gb stick suffice (8gb total), or should I buy an 8gb stick (12gb total ram).
I cannot buy 2x 8gb stick because I will loose warranty. My 4gb stick has a seal on it.
