I've inherited my son's Asus eee. Great little machine for lugging around, but sloooow. I only need to have windows word and power point on it. With those two and avg, I only have 14 gb of 30 free.

I can't believe that this os and two programs should consume that much space. If so, what do people use these machines for?

Solution
I have 60GB SSD and the things I have on my C are:
Win7
Starcraft2
Photoshop CS5
Corel
Ms Office 2010
and 5-7 Gb free.
I advise you to get a small program called WinDirStat so you can see where are the biggest files. Do the check-up with it and then look in Google how to move on other drive letter the 2 big files that Win7 requires to operate.

16GB is normal for windows 7. The Asus eee is a "netbook" and as the implies, it revolves around the internet and internet applications. Stuff like streaming video, listening to internet radio stations, surfing the web and emails are really the primary focus. People who have more knowledge can use it for other functions of course but the above are for the general users.

It is not supposed to be built for speed, portability + battery life and lost cost is the selling point. If the above covers your computer usage requirements then it would be enough. A lot of people use netbooks as their secondary/portable computer and have another for their other requirments.

Mine is a x32bit, so that pretty much answers the question. I am not certain I understand RAM. Is that something that can be installed in this Asus eee? What is the cost for add'l RAM? I am assuming that RAM is not the same as the 30gb measure.

I like the way you think!
