See the subject. This is interesting to me because if I overclock the processor to 4.4GHz, I know it will last a bit less but if its like £20 or something when it fails, then you might as well overclock it and then get another one.
Retail price doesn't go down on CPUs over time (unless they have a ton of stock they want to sell), but used ones will probably be down to $100 or less in 3 years.
Depends how long you keep it and where you get the new chip from. Sometimes older hardware actually goes up in price as the standards gets tougher to find. But i don't see the point in buying the same chip again in a few years when you can just rock that 4.4Ghz chip. You're assuming something will fail, but honestly by that time there will be new CPU's out on the market you could spend money on.
Prices are not going down well at all. AMD stopped competing against intel a long time ago. The only time the prices will drop is when i newer model is released. And even then, it will not be by much.
