How much with Thermal Paster do?

Hi

TLDR How much will Thermal Paste reduce the tempature in my PC?

So it was that time of the year to clean my PC, and my CPU cooler was really dirty and i could not clean it with a vacum cleaner, so i took it out and cleaned it (i didnt know what thermal paste was at this time) my question is, will reapplying new thermal paste get my tempatures low enough for it to not be dangerous?

its a Intel 2600k

Your cooler is designed to NEED thermal paste to run properly. Without it, too little energy is conducted to the block of your CPU cooler. Properly applied paste on a properly working cooler will restore your temperatures to a safe level.

right now its running at 90-100 degrees in idle, will the thermal paste get it under 80?

Thermal paste will keep the CPU thermally connected to the heatsink...without it the heat has a very hard time jumping the air gap between the CPU lid and the heatsink that mounts to it.

You need to get some thermal paste on that chip ASAP or you'll likely kill it...no joke.

You should shut it down and keep it off until you get thermal paste back on it...

...make sure you follow the manufacturers directions for applying the thermal paste

With thermal paste, is should be closer to 30C at idle and 70C at load. Running at those temperatures will damage your CPU. (90 - 100) Shut it down NOW and get some thermal paste, properly applied.

I use Noctua's paste, but there are others out there. Read reviews. Paste is fairly inexpensive, even the best, so it doesn't pay to go too cheap.

Update: my idle temp is now around 45 in speccy and around 48 in MSI afterburner, under load its around 60-70 😀 TY!

That idle is still a bit high, even if your CPU is overclocked, but the load is good. If you are satisfied, great news!
