How often does intel change chipsets?

Well yes intel change their chipset more often then AMD. But well so far depending one what your doign with your computer it doesn't mather a lot.

If your a gamer an i5-2500k will last you for years. You'll just need to switch your GPU and PSU befour needing another CPU.

For poeple doing 3d rendering and a lot of editithing, its different.

Chipsets change just as frequently between the two manufacturers (think P67 ->Z68 vs 890FX -> 990FX.) What Intel does do more than AMD is change sockets (think LGA775 -> LGA1156 vs. AM2+ -> AM3.) That means a new series of processor requires a new motherboard, instead of just dropping it in to an existing motherboard (as always assuming the motherboard supports it.) A AM3 board will support an AM2+ processor, but a LGA1156 board will not even physically fit, let alone support an LGA775 processor.

I should of said socket instead of chipset. I'm thinking about getting an i3 along with a new z68 motherboard and I don't want to have to get a new motherboard and cpu again in about 3 years.
