how playing a bowazon can really *screw you up!*

finished hell level with my bowazon and got so sick of playing her,
stopped doing /players 8 starting in act IV. i just wanted to finish
things up and move on to a different character.

got my paladin moving again, starting with the hellforge quest in
nightmare act IV. things were actually going swimmingly well. he
wapped things left and right with his beating stick. zeal and a cold
aura, plus fixing a few things, and he was virtually indestructable.

enter into diablo's sanctuary. i must've gone through it at *least* a
dozen times. why? because invariably, before i'd even had a chance
to open the fourth and fifth seals, i'd die a very fast, horrible, and
messy death.

after the dozenth time doing this, i tried analyzing what i was doing
wrong. it didn't matter how slowly i went in, how i worked the
fights, singling out monsters and such, i'd always wind up dying.

it's very frustrating you know.

well, it took me a few minutes to realize that 95% of the time i was
dying when facing off with a group of oblivion knights (and their
ilk). i yoinked open my "diablo 2 bible" (basically a pile of notes
i've printed out, plus my inventory check lists) and checked over my
list of curses and the description of the dancing lights over my head.

hey! look at that! thin dancing orange flames are a sign of iron
maiden.

hey! i do a couple thousand points of damage with each scepter wap.
combine that with zeal and lo! i'm doing several thousand points of
damage to *MYSELF*.

*grumble*
no wonder i was dying left, right, and centre.

readjust strategy. look up on my list every time some silly curse
winds up over my head (if i don't recognize it) and get the hell out
of dodge before i die if it's dangerous (iron maiden and amplify
damage were really doing a number on me most of the time). only
requirse me to go through the whole sanctuary *once* before raising
diablo, who dies in a firey glory after three (zeal) clicks off my
mouse (told you my scepter was nasty)

how does this relate to the bowazon?

she spoiled me rotten. since iron maiden is only effective with melee
attacks, i didn't give two whits about the curses. shoot a pile of
arrows, rocks fall, everyone dies.

lesson learned today... melee characters really bite the big one
sometimes.

*grump*
at least i made it to act V today.

http://diabloii.calcon.net/curses.shtml will help you with curses =)

Today when I switched to my zealot from my bowazon I kept standing still and
swiffing at air instead of attacking monsters, lol. Forgot I couldn't do the
lazy non-aiming shift + left-click anymore.

Have fun,

You *can* shift attack with zeal...The monsters just have to be within
weapon range.

Yes, very true, but due to habit I was attempting to attack when I saw
monsters on the edge of my screen. =) Commonly with my bowazon, I'll run
into a new room and shift-attack without even seeing anything, since her
range is more than 1 screen length. Silly Paladin.
